A clutch plate — sometimes called a drive plate or brush buckle — sits between the machine hub and the brush, transmitting torque while allowing the brush to be removed for cleaning or replacement. When the clutch plate wears, the drive slips: the motor spins, the brush barely turns, and the machine looks like it has no power when the real problem is a five-dollar plate.
